HRT Monitoring & Menopause Profile

What is this test for:

To see the absorptive ability to HRT in a women and identify if the hormones taken are present in the blood stream are at therapeutic levels and a  group of test to help provide information about the onset of the menopause.

How does the test work:

This blood test works by measuring levels of hormones in your blood which are affected by Hormone replacement therapy and measuring levels of hormones in the blood which control of the onset of the menopause.

Hormone replacement refers to the use of oestrogen and progesterone, to relieve menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, lethargy, sleep disturbance and vaginal dryness. Oestrogen hormones also help to prevent osteoporosis and atherosclerosis. Menopause is when the ovaries produce less oestrogen hormones which cause menstruation to cease with other hormonal changes. The menopause occurs most commonly between 45 and 55 years of age but can occur later or much earlier

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Oestradiol (E2), Progesterone, SHB Globin, Testosterone, DHAS and Vit D

Oestradiol (E2) Test

What is this test for:

To measure the amount of oestradiol (most common type of oestrogen measured) in the blood.

How does the test work:

This blood test works by measuring levels of Oestradiol (E2) in the blood.

Oestradiol is a steroid hormone whose primary role is to regulate female reproductive function. Secreted by the ovaries it prepares the follicle in the ovary for the release of an egg. Oestradiol also helps to maintain bone density.

CA-125 (Ovarian Cancer)

What is this test for:

To monitor treatment for Ovarian Cancer.

How does the test work:

By measuring the levels of the CA-125 molecule in your blood.

Ovarian cancer survival is directly related to its detection stage. Studies have shown that the CA-125 may forewarn of ovarian cancer. Repeat testing of CA-125 is helpful for observing a trend (I.e. your own Personal Normal level), which can be useful for early detection.
